Our Morning Walk

ninety minutes after sunrise
vegetation soaked and shining
a flock of jays agitates a calm sky
the hawk must be near

along the trail
one particular switchgrass plant
(bigger than most)
cascades its huge panicles over the edge

a million rhinestones sparkle
and shatter...
soaking my dog
