Book Description

This ebook contains a set of science literacy resources and exercises relevant to a variety of core microbiology and molecular biology concepts for faculty to use in their classrooms. It incorporates primary literature discussed in “This week in Microbiology” (TWiM), a podcast where experts in microbiology discuss academic papers in their field in an informal way. The exercises enable students to practice figure-reading, figure interpretation, and experimental design in a free, easy to use format. In each section (podcast and two figure reading exercises), learning objectives and assessment questions are aligned.  We hope instructors will use these resources and that this will enhance science literacy of all students in microbiology and molecular biology.

Iowa State University is located on the ancestral lands and territory of the Baxoje (bah-kho-dzhe), or Ioway Nation. The United States obtained the land from the Meskwaki and Sauk nations in the Treaty of 1842. We wish to recognize our obligations to this land and to the people who took care of it, as well as to the 17,000 Native people who live in Iowa today.
