Guide for Promoting Academic Integrity and Addressing Academic Misconduct

Everyone on campus has a crucial role in promoting academic integrity. Teaching students about academic integrity is foundational for student success and a culture of honesty. Furthermore, it helps them understand its significance and develop essential skills for their academic and professional lives.

The Office of Student Conduct and the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) co-authored this guide for faculty, staff, and teaching assistants (TAs) at Iowa State University, which complements the ISU Academic Integrity Tutorial for Students. The guide focuses solely on academic integrity and misconduct related to students. It does not include other types of misconduct, such as research ethics, integrity, or publication ethics. Additionally, it does not cover non-academic issues like Title IX, harassment, classroom disruption, or interpersonal conflict.

This guide will help instructors create a supportive environment that encourages responsible and honest work by proactively promoting academic integrity and holding students accountable for academic misconduct through the Office of Student Conduct.
