Community Programming
We held numerous public programs to accompany the exhibition. Three of these events are listed below. We had an opening event where Christian from the brand All is Fair in Love and Wear, a binder company, discussed and showed binders worn by trans and gender non-conforming people. We also did numerous public lectures around campus including one for the Feminist Friday series at the Margaret Sloss Center for Women and Gender Equity. Last, we created a pop-up exhibition at the Ames Public Library during the All Ages Drag Show, Ames IA.

Awards
In 2019, the Costume Society of America nominated the research abstract based upon the exhibition titled Queer Fashion and Style: Stories from the Heartland – A Museum Exhibition for the Betty Kirke Excellence in Research Award.
In 2019, the Costume Society of America awarded the exhibition the Richard Martin Exhibition Award, one of the top awards a mounted fashion exhibition can received.
