it was way too late in the day
to act upon a sudden urge
for ouzo
and tender chunks of lamb
with artichokes and lemon
(and plenty of garlic)

but that jagged anise
might just have the power
to bring old chefs back from the dead
and make the hands on clocks spin
backwards
