after the storm
the drought
the gentle rains
the wait was over

coming down the flowing Mimbres
just before Faywood
blue lightning finally struck
struck right on a hot June afternoon
with few clouds in a hazy sky

ten cows dozed
among white poppies
maybe the dust felt right
on brown elk bellies
