Driven

You might think with so many years
under his belt that he’d know when
to call it a day in the face of those cool gusts
kicked up by the storm moving in,
the way the cows know to stay away
from the smoldering brush pile
at the far end of their pasture.

But he is too driven and will only stop
at the end of his task at hand
or the lightning bolt’s.
