10.3 Part Writing, First Inversion Triads and Suspensions: Aural Training exercises
Step 1) Listen to each harmonic progression, consisting of four chords in root-position or first-inversion.
Step 2) Sing along with the bass line, then notate it on the staff
Step 3) Sing up and down each chord as it goes along, finding the notes of each triad along the way. Note: the chord progression in played in open SATB voicing, but you should sing up and down each chord in closed position above each bass note (i.e. find the bass note and sing up to the next closest pitch in the chord, then up again to the next pitch, and back down again, recognizing the role—root, 3rd, or 5th—in the chord and quality of each bass note and notes above).
