5.5 Roman Numerals and Diatonic Harmony: Sight Singing exercises

Exercise 1

For each given Roman Numeral (all are major or minor triads or major-minor 7th chords), practice the following

Step 1) Pick a key and play the correct bass note for each of the following chords in the key.

Step 2) Sing each indicated chord up and down above the bass note on scale degrees.

  2. i6/4
  3. V4/2
  4. VI6
  5. ii6/4
  6. iii6
  7. V4/3
  8. IV6/4
  9. V6/5
  10. vi6
  11. V4/2
  12. i6
  13. V4/3

Exercise 2

For each chord on the staff (all are major or minor triads or major-minor 7th chords), practice the following

Step 1) Play the bass note.

Step 2) Sing the indicated chord up and down above the bass note on scale degrees in the key.
