Melodic Range and Structure

Step 1) Sing each of the following musical excerpts

Step 2) For each melody, identify the contour and cadences used to form its structure.

Step 3) Choose one of the melodies. Start singing it, but improvise a different melodic path for it to take. For example, change the overall contour of the melody, or end with a different kind of cadence. Start small, changing only a few notes near the end, then try it again and again, changing more each time.
