1.3 Basics of Beaming: Aural Training exercises

Listen to each two-measure exercise (each is one measure repeated). Each can be notated in either 3/4 or 6/8 time

Step 1) Conduct the pulse through from beginning to end, first in 3/4, then in 6/8. 

Step 2) Conduct and ta straight sixteenth notes from beginning to end (e.g. “1-ta-te-ta, 2-ta-te-ta” for 3/4 time or “1-ta-la-ta-li-ta, 2-ta-la-ta-li-ta” for 6/8), listening to where the rhythm lies within each beat of 3/4 or 6/8. 

Step 3) Once you’ve memorized each rhythm, notate each with proper beaming in 3/4, then in 6/8.
