3.3 Minor Scales: Sight Singing exercises

Practice each of the following minor key, one-measure exercises

Step 1) Identify whether the first not is scale degree 1, 3 or 5, depending on the given key signature.

Step 2) Provide yourself a tonic pitch, sing up and down the scale (i.e. 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-1-7-6-5-4-3-2-1), then find your starting pitch if it is not scale degree 1.

Step 3) Sing the exercise on numbers. Be careful to distinguish between the natural minor scale degrees 6 and 7 verses the raised leading-tone 7 where indicated.

Step 4) Repeat the exercise several times from different starting tonic pitches.
