5.2 Seventh Chords and Inversions: Sight Singing exercises

Step 1) Pick a starting pitch, any pitch

Step 2) Sing a root position major-minor 7th chord up and down from this pitch, singing the numbers of the dominant V7 chord (i.e. 5-7-2-4-2-7-5).

Step 3) Sing a first inversion major-minor 7th chord up and down from this same starting pitch, which is now the third of the chord, or scale degree 7 (i.e. sing 7-2-4-5-4-2-7 from the starting pitch).

Step 4) Sing a second inversion major-minor 7th chord up and down from the same starting pitch, which is now scale degree 2 (i.e. 2-4-5-7-5-4-2).

Step 5) Sing a third inversion major-minor 7th chord up and down from the same starting pitch, which is now scale degree 4 (i.e. 4-5-7-2-7-5-4).
